Why This Guide Exists

There is a lot of confusion and not enough clarity when it comes to OEM software. Every manufacturer has its own portals, subscription types, tools, and requirements. Shops everywhere are asking the same questions. What do I need for service information? What about diagnostics? What is required for programming? Which VCI will actually work?

The information exists, but it is scattered across dozens of OEM sites and usually buried behind pages of menus, PDFs, and support articles. We wanted to cut through that and create a single resource the community can rely on.

For each OEM, we break down:

  • What the software is and what it is used for
  • Where to access it (official portals and links)
  • What it costs (day, month, and annual pricing)
  • Which VCIs work, and any ADAS, calibration, or programming notes you should know

Honda / Acura

Software: i-HDS (Integrated Honda Diagnostic Software Suite), Honda SIS, Acura SIS

i-HDS, Integrated Diagnostic Software

  • Honda's official diagnostic and programming suite for both Honda and Acura vehicles
  • Includes:
    • HDS (Honda Diagnostic System): used for full-system diagnostics, ECU initialization, resets, and key relearns
    • J2534 Rewrite Utility: used for ECU module programming and firmware updates
  • Covers model years from the early 2000s to current
  • HDS handles diagnostics and service functions. Programming is performed through the J2534 Rewrite inside the suite.

Honda SIS / Acura SIS, Service Information Systems

  • Separate from i-HDS, the SIS portals provide OEM service information: wiring diagrams, service manuals, and TSBs
  • Both use the same login portal at techinfo.honda.com, but Honda SIS and Acura SIS are separate purchases

  • Still supported for older models, but being phased out as vehicles transition to MDARS coverage

  • Remains the main solution for most vehicles currently on the road

CONSULT IV R2R, Right-to-Repair Edition

  • New generation platform covering 2024 and newer Nissan and Infiniti models
  • Fully cloud-connected system, requires an active internet connection for all functions
  • Streamlined interface and modernized driver management, but no backward compatibility for older models
  • Currently transitioning, many shops will need to keep both C3+ and C4 installed for full coverage

  • Modern platform used for 2016+ Subaru vehicles
  • Backward compatible with most older models, effectively replacing SSM3
  • Provides full diagnostics, ECU programming, calibration support, and guided workflows
  • Works with OE VCI or standard J2534 interfaces

  • Handles full system diagnostics, module reprogramming, ECU updates, ADAS calibration, and key programming (key programming requires NASTF LSID credentials)
  • R2R J2534 version available for independent shops, allowing reprogramming and diagnostics via compatible J2534 pass-thru devices
  • Two-factor authentication required for login via the Data eXchange Assistant (DXA)

  • Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis each use dedicated factory tablets, sold separately, approximately $8,000 USD each
  • Tablets come preloaded with OEM diagnostic and programming software for that specific brand
  • Provides full functionality: diagnostics, ECU programming, ADAS calibration, immobilizer, and guided repair workflows
  • Each brand's tablet operates independently, there is no cross-brand access between Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis units

GDS R2R, Right-to-Repair PC Version

  • Recently made available as a Windows PC-based platform, no factory tablet required
  • Covers approximately 2018 and newer vehicles
  • Designed for independent and aftermarket shops, diagnostics, programming, and calibration capabilities depend on licensing and NASTF access
  • Earlier model years (pre-2018) are well covered by aftermarket tools such as Autel, Topdon, or Launch
  • Fully online-based, requires an active internet connection for operation
