Overview
The Multiple Diagnostic Interface 2 (MDI 2) is used by professional technicians as an aid in diagnosing and repairing automotive electrical and electronic systems. It connects the vehicle to a host PC application for data transfer and ECU reprogramming.
The newest PC-based GM Multiple Diagnostic Interface offers increased processing power, security, and faster programming speeds on Global A and future Global B vehicles.

Pass-Thru programming applications supported:

Replaces the first-generation MDI (introduced 2007) for Pass-Thru programming on current GM models. Backward compatible for Pass-Thru programming on all GM vehicles built since 1996 through the J1962 (DLC) connector. Connection between the MDI 2 and the PC works over USB (standalone) or the dealership network (CAT5).
Features
- New, more secure Type B connector with Ground Offset Failure protection. Wired connection recommended for longer programming events.
- Powered from the vehicle battery via the DLC cable. Can also be powered over USB for firmware updates only.
- USB 2.0 for faster firmware downloads, no separate AC power supply required.
- DLC cable is twice as long as the previous cable and connects at the top for easier use. Cable is specific to the MDI 2.
